1. Who we are
GivEat is a Toronto-based community meal platform connecting supporters, verified students, and participating restaurants. The platform helps supporters fund meals, students claim meals, and restaurants verify GE codes at pickup.
2. Eligibility and verification
You must be at least 13 years old to create a GivEat account. Student accounts require age 17–30 and approved verification.
- Students may be asked to provide student documents, a study permit, Ontario ID, or other verification materials before approval.
- Restaurants may be asked to provide accurate business, contact, banking, and operating information before being activated.
- GivEat may approve, reject, suspend, or remove accounts when information is incomplete, inaccurate, unsafe, abusive, or inconsistent with the pilot rules.
3. Supporter payments and fees
Supporters choose a participating restaurant and fund meals through the GivEat platform. Payments are processed by Stripe. GivEat does not store raw card numbers.
- Supporters may choose participating restaurants but may not direct sponsorships to a specific student.
- Supporters may not request direct student contact, message students, or receive private student information.
- Impact updates may include privacy-safe claim or restaurant-level activity, but not student email, phone, student ID, private documents, or full identity details.
- Supporters may sponsor up to 50 meals per restaurant per day unless GivEat changes the limit or approves a larger arrangement.
- Refunds are reviewed case by case and may be declined for completed claims, suspected abuse, chargebacks, fraud risk, or circumstances outside GivEat's control.
- Payment abuse, harassment, misuse, or attempts to bypass platform rules may lead to account review, restriction, or suspension.
4. Restaurant payouts and commission
Restaurants are paid for completed, verified meal claims according to GivEat payout review and platform records. Restaurants must verify the GE code before serving a sponsored meal.
- Restaurants must keep menu names, prices, photos, daily limits, and operating hours accurate.
- Restaurants may not charge students more than the menu price shown in GivEat.
- Restaurants may not ask students for extra payment, tax, service charges, tips, or other fees for a sponsored meal.
- Restaurants must verify a valid GE code before serving and may not reuse, duplicate, or complete the same GE code more than once.
- A verified GE code should be honoured unless there is a genuine stock, safety, closure, or operational issue. Restaurants should notify GivEat when this happens.
- Payouts are based on completed, verified claims and may be reviewed, delayed, adjusted, or withheld if there is suspected misuse, inaccurate menu information, duplicate claims, code abuse, overcharging, unsafe conduct, or violation of these terms.
5. Student claims and pickup rules
- Student meals are free for approved students.
- Students must use their own account and GE code, and may not claim meals for someone else.
- Students may claim one meal per day and up to three meals per week, unless GivEat changes the limit.
- Students must arrive during the selected pickup window and treat restaurant staff respectfully.
- GE codes may not be sold, transferred, shared, traded, posted publicly, or used by another person.
- No-shows, misuse, duplicate accounts, resale, harassment, false claims, or fraudulent activity may lead to account restrictions or suspension.
- Students are responsible for checking ingredients, allergens, and dietary suitability directly with the restaurant.
- GivEat is not an emergency food service and does not guarantee meal availability.
6. Food safety and restaurant responsibility
Participating restaurants remain responsible for food preparation, ingredients, allergen handling, health standards, licensing, staff training, and compliance with applicable laws. GivEat is a platform connecting parties and does not prepare food.
7. Refunds, disputes, and corrections
Refunds and adjustments are reviewed case by case. GivEat may review transaction records, claim status, restaurant verification, student pickup activity, and payment processor information before making a decision.
8. Privacy and limited student visibility
Restaurants should only see the limited student details needed to verify pickup, such as first name, profile photo, GE code, and pickup time. Student email, phone, student ID, and private documents should not be shown to restaurants.
Restaurants may not request student email, phone, student ID, private documents, address, or unrelated personal information as a condition of serving a sponsored meal.
9. Not a charity
GivEat is not a registered charity. Supporter sponsorships are payments for meals at participating restaurants, not charitable donations. Sponsorships are not tax-deductible unless separately confirmed in writing by GivEat. GivEat does not issue charitable tax receipts.
10. Community posts and user content
Students may share meal photos and captions through the community feature. By posting, you grant GivEat a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to display, moderate, and remove content on the platform. GivEat may remove posts that are inappropriate, misleading, offensive, or reported by other users without prior notice. You retain ownership of your content.
11. Prohibited conduct
Users may not create fake or duplicate accounts, impersonate others, submit false documents, share, sell, or trade GE codes, exploit claims or promotions, harass partners or other users, interfere with or reverse engineer the platform, scrape data, or attempt fraudulent payments or chargebacks. GivEat may suspend or remove accounts involved in any of these behaviours.
12. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Bargello Canada Inc. is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including lost profits, lost data, service interruption, partner errors, food issues, allergic reactions, missed pickups, or user misconduct. GivEat’s total liability for any claim is limited to the amount the user paid through GivEat in the 30 days before the event giving rise to the claim.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable in Ontario. Any dispute will be handled in the courts of Ontario unless applicable law requires otherwise.
14. Changes and contact
GivEat may update these terms as the pilot grows. Material changes will be communicated by email or a notice on the platform. Continued use of GivEat after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. For questions, fees, disputes, restaurant onboarding, or student verification, contact giveatca@gmail.com.
